Delightfully Askewed Comedy

This flick falls into the love it or hate it category. Personally, I liked it alot but I recognize the scattershot nature of some of it's humor. If I could nutshell it imagine if the Dude from the "Big Lebowski" trains a unit of psychic warriors for the military. May sound implausible but I'll have to ask my brother who's retired from the Army's Intelligence Corps for his opinion. In an economic running time the makers get as much out of the gag as they possibly can and leave you satisfied. The talented cast is game and engaging and the aforementioned Jeff Bridges is a standout here. When this came out it got a mixed reception from the critics and the reviewer from "Entertainment Weekly" gave it an F. Maybe home video is the best place to view this flick but I would recommend this audacious film to the most ambitious cineastes.
HIGH EXPECTATIONS BY THE MAKERS AND ACTORS, I SUSPECT (2010-09-02)
Based on a novel and partially true tales. The movie attempts to be zany in certain parts while also trying to deliver a message of the need for Jedis. star wars fans will love it when Ewan McGregor asks, "What's a Jedi?" The movie tries to take us on the hero's spiritual quest to enlightenment but this is really hard to pull off normally and then adding the zany element makes it even harder. There's an impressive cast in this picture that tells me it started with high expectations but the delivery was only somewhat good instead of very good, great or superlative. WHEN WATCHED: 08/31/2010; MY GRADE: B minus to B.
Goofy Pleasure (2010-09-01)
Watched this on cable last night and really enjoyed it. The whole premise was actually a serious military project at one time back in the day, but I assume it never panned out in real life?
This is definitely not a movie for everyone as some of the gags and humor are a bit deadpan, yet I found myself chuckling throughout it all. George Clooney plays a likeable goofball and Jeff Bridges is especially great as the head Jedi. Kevin Spacey plays a real weasel this time.
The only thing that could have bothered me is when George Clooney reveals his health condition to the reporter (as a result of a "death touch"). Whether it was real or just imagined is hard to say because you could not tell in the end.
Speaking of endings, I loved the little twist at the end.
Not for everyone's taste, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Bizarre and a Witness to the Dark Side

I loved this movie. Would see it again. But most people dont get it. My family didn't get it. I went and saw it alone and then rented it for my grown daughter and wife and they were like 'what on earth are we watching'. Well, what can I say? Being a marine and vietnam Vet and product of the sixties I believe this is primarily a true story as the author says it is. I recently read the book, after seeing the movie, and didnt care for it - but the movie - go see it if you're into the bizarre real military thinking and tests.
How could you not like it? (2010-08-28)
I was reading the 1 star reviews and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This movie is awesome. I laughed the entire time and I found it very enjoyable. You will definitely like this movie if you enjoyed the Ocean's trilogy or movies like The Informant. Awesome script, awesome acting, awesome cast, need I say more?
