Could not recommend this product enough. For the money spent and what the camera is(a compact, pocket camera), it is outstanding. I purchased two of them and no complaints. One of the recent purchases got to go to europe and preformed very well and made my wife very happy (picture taking nut). What more could you ask...
Aesthetically pleasing

It's a nice camera. The picture quality is phenomenal. However, when I shoot pictures at night especially lights, the pictures come out blurry. The camera says that my hand is shaking (which it is not). I'm still an amateur when it comes to picture taking and dealing with camera technology so maybe it's something I did wrong. Perhaps I should read the manual and try out everything. But overall, the quality of the pictures is excellent and even made my friend who likes taking pictures very jealous.
A surprise delight. (2010-07-27)
Took matching pictures with this little gem and my nikon D90 using several different lens types. When compared side by side on a 25 inch monitor it was very difficult to tell the difference between the results of the two cameras. While the nikon pictures were a bit sharper when the images were expanded, the quality of this camera's shots was quite impressive. In addition, it has virtually all of the manual features found on the nikon. Very impressive for such a little device.
Disposable point and shoot

I don't know what is happening to all of the major brands we knew and trusted....I purchased this camera to replace a 5 yr old 5 mp olympus 5050 that was broken at my wife's friend's bridal shower- (she left it at the table to go to the restroom and when she came back, she found 3 batteries sitting next to the camera, and 1 on the floor, she tried to put the batteries back in and door would not lock down..noone said anything to her.)
Meanwhile, I was actually was looking to get a new camera, right before the incident, for I was getting tired of the bulk and older, slower features. Soon as I saw the 780is, I liked the sleek look and ultra-portability, combined with the 12mp and video capability, and It was a Canon, I was jazzed...but it had a 299.99 price tag, that busted the bubble. I said Canon's crazy, I'll wait until the price goes down when the new model comes out. (for those that don't know, a company's new model after a re-design usually is the same product with 1 or 2 extra features, nothing to trip over yourself for.)
I patiently waited finally found one for under 170.00 and ordered it right up. Upon receiving the cam, my first thought was man it is small, I charged it up and started taking test shots against his replacement, the olympus.
Here's where the try before you buy is critical, The pics from the Canon were instantly noticeable being grainy and smaller detail was blown out. I thought it was broken, so I called the company and they sent me a replacement. I did notice something else that did disappoint me, both cameras I received were stamped Made In china...Yes, The japanese brand and rep is now outsourcing to china...great.
Sorry, and no offense, but so far, the quality of china goods I've received is not of the highest standards.
The pic quality of this cam proves that and says it all- grainy and blurry for inside shots (retouching required) only the outside shots, both still and video, look awesome, but sound on the video is bad, too.
After the initial disappointment faded, and I realized quality control is pretty much dead everywhere, I decided to keep the Canon, just for the quick point and shoot convenience. Not to mention that after 2 month of casual use, the paint on the body is wearing off in spots. If I had purchased it at the original price or anything higher than I paid, it would have gone right back.
P/S. I did not retire the olympus after purchasing the Canon as I intended, for its pic quality is superior. A 5 yr old 5mp cam with a rubber band holding it's batteries in place performs better over brand new 12mp cam, What's that tell you??
Fatal Design Error - maximum 3 month lifespan

I have always gotten Canon Powershot cameras and loved them - at least all of my previous cameras - until now.
This is my second camera of this model, and after just 3 months it's lens will not open fully due to "lens Error". My first camera only lasted 3 weeks before it had this same problem. I had returned the first camera, thinking that it was a fluke with the individual camera, but now I see that this fatal problem is a design flaw that is present in every Canon camera of this model.
DO NOT BUY THIS camera!!!!! It only has a lifespan of 3 months maximum!!!
